 Switchel (Haymaker's Punch)

“The book of life is the record of the acts of man as such record is written in their own body. It is the record engraven in the very bones, sinews, and flesh of the mortal body
That is, every thought, word, and deed has an effect on the human body.  All these leave their marks, marks which can be read by Him who is eternal, as easily as the words in a book can be read.”-Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine (Feelings buried alive, never die.)

This is the original healthy summer drink used to refresh those who worked long hours in the hot fields all day. Over hundreds of years old. Use in place of sports drinks or plain water. It rehydrates your cells properly because of the balance of sodium, potassium, and other trace minerals it contains. Make this in a quart jar.

1 Tbsp fresh grated ginger (or use 1 tsp dry powdered ginger)
3 Tbsp sweetner (pure maple syrup, honey, molasses, sorghum syrup)
3 1/2 c. warm water (to stir up sweetener and start extracting ginger)
Once incorporated, then add COOL WATER to almost fill up the rest of the quart jar
3 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (with the mother, raw, organic) (or substitute lemon juice)
optionals: pinch sea salt, & up to 1/8 tsp cayenne

Refrigerate drink until icy cold, or pour over ice and serve! Make a big 5 gallon cooler for long days in the sun on treks, camps, days at the lake, etc., and bring ice to keep it cold.
