Chantelle's Soft Sugar Cookies (yes, these are the good ones)

 







Cream together:
1 c. butter
1 ½ c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla

Add:
3 ½ c. flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt

Roll out and cut with cookie cutters.  Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes.

Frosting:
I don’t really measure these ingredients so this is an approximation.  Melt about ½ cup of butter, about 1/8 c. milk, and 1 tsp vanilla.  Add powdered sugar until it looks like frosting, but not totally thick cake frosting; a tiny bit runny so that it will set up smooth on the cookies.  Then color with food coloring.

Or you can spread on this soft frosting: 4 Tbsp butter, 2 Tbsp cream cheese, 4 c. powdered sugar, 2 tsp vanilla, cream to thin, food colorings as desired.
