Pero (Ecco or Coronado) Drinks, Herbal Teas

Sometimes in the cold winter you need something hot, but you don't want the addiction of coffee or the sugar of hot chocolate, so what do you do? Pero! Made primarily from barley, but also other toasted grains like chicory and rye. While living in Chile for 16 months, they gave us this drink all the time and it really hit the spot on cold days!

1 cup of hot water or hot milk (I use almond milk)
1 big spoonful of Pero (or Ecco/Coronado in Chile)
1 big spoonful of honey or sugar
splash of cream if you like

This is so much like coffee, but has no caffeine or coffee beans. Love it!

Also we drink a lot of herbal teas. It seemed to me this last winter that my teas for throats or immune support like Echinacea and Elderberry really helped me to not get sick when everyone else was getting sick. Even when I already had a sore throat and I knew it was all over, I would suddenly recover. So give herbal teas a try for warmth and immune support. I love the  Sweet and Spicy flavor, Echinacea, Ginger, Camomile, Smooth Move for constipation, and many others. I usually put a bit of honey in and nothing else.
