Hamburger Buns (Quick!) from Taste of Home
2 Tbsp active dry yeast
1 cup plus 2 Tbsp warm water
1/3 c. vegetable oil
1/3 c. vegetable oil
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg, room temp
1 tsp salt
3-3 1/2 cups flour
*cream (optional)
In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add oil and sugar; let stand for 5 minutes. Add the egg, salt and enough flour to form a soft dough. (If I'm busy I will let it sit and hang out here in the bowl for half hour, but if not, move right along to next step).
Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 3-5 minutes. Divide dough into 8-12 pieces (depending on how big you want your buns); shape each into a ball. Place 2 in. apart on greased baking sheet(s). *optional- brush with cream. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees (I do 400 degrees in my small top oven since the heating element is so close to the buns). Bake until golden brown, 8-12 minutes (depending on whether they are smaller buns or bigger buns, and depending on your oven). Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.
These are great for making sandwiches on, burgers on, or just eating with butter, jam, PB, etc!
