Butternut Squash and Apple Bake- no sugar
Butternut Squash and Apple Bake
Peel and slice 1 butternut squash.
Core and slice (we like rings with the skin still on) 2-3 baking apples.
Layer both in a 13x9--I usually put the apples on top.
Sprinkle everything with salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Drizzle on 1/4-1/2 c. maple syrup.
Cover with foil and bake for 2 hours at 300 degrees.
When done, the squash and apples are so soft and sweet, it's better than candy! A WFPB treat.
"Suddenly she had a completely new thought... God is America's king. Americans won't obey any king on earth. Americans are free. That means they have to obey their own consciences. No king bosses Pa; he has to boss himself. ...when I am a little older, Pa and Ma will stop telling me what to do, and there isn't anyone else who has the right to give me orders. I will have to make myself be good. ...That is what it means to be free. It means you have to be good. The laws of Nature and of Nature's God endow you with a right to life and liberty. Then you have to keep the laws of God, for God's law is the only thing that gives you a right to be free." Laura Ingalls Wilder, Little Town on the Prairie.
I know a man in my ward who stopped eating sugar cold turkey. I still have some on special occasions since I have A LOT of great dessert recipes. But he never looked back. Why would I want to go through the withdrawal all over again?- he said. I’m beginning to think he’s right. I wish I was like him… My old running instructor in Utah doesn’t ever partake either. Amazing!
